The agony of love, the sweet suffering of the heart and the consoling glances of infidels
Roberta Mameli and Luca Pianca recreate early music in a new way, showing how its simplicity can contain the power of the deepest part of the soul. A voice and a lute combine to create a timeless elegance that unites heart and mind, where love and passion meet; anime amanti.
Looking at the composers surrounding Jean-Baptiste Lully, we discover a world full of music, perhaps not so far removed from our own, where the notes live on with the same vitality as they did then.
Music: Claudio Monteverdi, Giulio Caccini, Barbara Strozzi, Sigismondo d’India, Andrea Falconieri, Pietro Paolo Raimondo, Tarquinio Merula
Italian soprano Roberta Mameli sings on opera stages all over Europe, with conductors as Jordi Savall, Daniele Callegari, Christopher Hogwood, Fabio Biondi, Claudio Abbado, Ottavio Dantone, Ton Koopmann and Jean-Christophe Spinosi. We have met her twice at Drottningholms Slottsteater; as Ginevra in Ariodante under Ian Page 2019 and as Poppea in Agrippina under Francesco Corti 2021.
Lutenist Luca Pianca was born in Lugano, Switzerland of ethnic Italian ancestry. He studied with Nikolaus Harnoncourt at the Mozarteum University of Salzburg, Austria. In 1985 he co- founded Il Giardino Armonico and has recorded more than 20 CDs, including complete recordings of lute repertoire by J.S.Bach and Antonio Vivaldi.
